JOB SUMMARY:
Practices in accordance with the standards of professional practice and code of ethics as outlined by the College of Registered Nurses’ of British Columbia (CRNBC) as well as within a client and family centred care model and the vision and values of the organization. Working in close collaboration and consultation with the Managers/Project Coordinators, various unit leadership teams and relevant stakeholders, participates in the development and provision of standardized clinical support and training programs to assist the transition of nurses into clinical practice at various sites across the organization. Uses advanced nursing theory and content knowledge as well as teaching and learning principles and processes to ensure provision of classroom training and unit-based cross-training, coaching, mentoring and staff development. Consults and collaborates with other educators and interdisciplinary team members of the various units to coordinate activities, promote continuous quality improvement, and resolution of issues.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Experience:
Baccalaureate in Nursing, three years’ recent, related medical/surgical nursing experience including one year’s related teaching experience as well as experience mentoring and preceptoring, facilitating group processes and team building, and experience in orientation/education program design, development, implementation and evaluation or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Masters in Adult Education preferred. Current practicing registration with the College of Registered Nurses’ of British Columbia (CRNBC). Valid BC Driver’s License required. Local area travel may require use of own vehicle.
Knowledge & Abilities:
Broad knowledge of nursing science theory, and practice within a client/family centred care model. Comprehensive knowledge of CRNBC standards for nursing practice. Comprehensive knowledge of clinical practice related to medical/surgical nursing. Broad knowledge of hospital policies, procedures, and standards of care. Broad knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in client care. Broad knowledge of research methodology and processes. Demonstrated ability to function as an effective team member, leader, facilitator, mentor and preceptor. Demonstrated ability to teach, demonstrate, facilitate and coach. Demonstrated ability to develop educational programs and material. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, physicians, other health care staff and clients and their families, either one-on-one and in-groups. Demonstrated ability to provide leadership to customers. Demonstrated ability to promote a creative learning environment. Demonstrated ability to establish workload priorities in collaboration with others. Demonstrated ability to provide effective consultation. Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with others. Physical ability to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position. Skill in the use of equipment and in techniques appropriate to acute medical/surgical nursing. Demonstrated ability to deal with and/or guide others in resolution of conflict issues. Demonstrated ability to function effectively and efficiently in emergency situations and guide others in order to deliver quality client care. Demonstrated skill in CPR techniques. Demonstrated computer skills including the ability to effectively use wordprocessing, spreadsheet, presentation, and database applications.
